The public will have two opportunities in September to delve deeper into New London’s intriguing past with tours given at the historic Cedar Grove Cemetery.

At 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, historian and cemetery expert David Oat will lead an hour-long tour titled “Buried History; A Walking Tour of Cedar Grove Cemetery.”

At 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, Violet Johnson, executive director of New London Landmarks will lead a tour titled “A Women’s History of Cedar Grove Cemetery.”

Each tour costs $20 per person for Friends of Cedar Grove or New London Landmarks members and $25 for the general public. The women’s tour can be paid for in advance through New London Landmarks. Payment in cash will be accepted at the start of the Sept. 12 tour. Applications for the Friends of Cedar Grove also will be available. Proceeds will be split between Friends of Cedar Grove and New London Landmarks.

Cedar Grove Cemetery, 638 Broad St., New London, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Each tour begins near the Cedar Grove office building/chapel, located just inside the cemetery gates.
