The date is set and we’re gearing up for our first-ever Summer Solstice event at historic Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 14!
At the most recent Friends meeting, a number of ideas were proposed for activities that recognize Cedar Grove’s historic roots and its close connection to nature and the changing seasons.
Because this is our first time hosting the event, we plan to start small and leave plenty of room to grow in the future.
If there’s an activity on the list below that you’d like to help organize, please let us know as soon as possible. If you have another idea not listed here and would like to lead it, we’d love to hear from you.
Possible activities include:
Tree-plant walk
Rock painting
Scavenger hunt
Bulb or flower planting
Native American ceremony
Healing power of rocks, minerals, and crystals
Meditation
Yoga
Advanced directives workshop
Healing through art
Herbal remedies workshop
Native fauna talk
Nature photography
Nature journaling
General logistics (parking, tickets, set-up, clean-up, refreshments)
We won’t tackle everything, but plan to select about six activities for the day.
Two activities that are certain:
Flag-burning ceremony
History-themed cemetery tour
We look forward to working together to make this a meaningful and memorable event.
Our next Friends planning session will be:
Monday, April 6 at 5:30 PM
Cedar Grove Cemetery Office
638 Broad Street
New London, CT
We hope you can join us!
